5 Ways To Fit Cardio In During A Busy Week

Let's face it — life can get busy. Whether it's work, your children's activities, or the everyday responsibilities we all face, it's not easy to find time to exercise.

On the other hand, you know the many benefits of exercise, including improved physical and mental health, and an overall better quality of life. Meanwhile, studies show that leading a sedentary lifestyle leads to many health problems.

While finding time to fit in cardio workouts in the midst of a hectic week is challenging, it's also oh-so-important. Here are some things you can do:

1. Exercise during your lunch hour

It's always tempting to have lunch with your colleagues, or get errands done, but this is valuable time. Instead, use part of your lunch hour to run or walk, or to go to your gym for a noon exercise class. Bonus: Exercising during lunch can boost your energy and alertness to help you get through the rest of the workday.

2. Make your layovers active

If your job involves a lot of travel, you know what it's like to deal with airport layovers. But a layover doesn't mean you have to stare at a clock or your watch until it's time for departure. Pack a pair of running or walking shoes with you and take a brisk stroll around the airport until it's time to board your flight.

3. Take the stairs

Do you routinely take the elevator to your office? Take the stairs instead! At a brisk pace, take the stairs one at a time; research shows that going one-step-at-a-time over an entire flight of stairs burns more calories than taking multiple steps.

4. Pick a workout you can do anywhere

There are plenty of workouts that can be done practically anywhere, including walking and running. Walk around your workplace when you have a break or run laps and sprints around the field at your child's sports practice. You'd be surprised how many minutes of exercise you can squeeze in with a bit of creativity.

5. Have an active date

We've all been there: you've worked all day and now have a date with your significant other. Instead of dinner and movie, how about an active date — a game of tennis, spinning class, or a jog around the park?
