Dr. Patrick Proffer Joins Mission 2540 to Set Burpee World Record

The burpee: it’s everybody's favorite love-to-hate exercise. But since so few people actually enjoy doing burpees, it makes sense that a world record has never been set for them! Hopefully, that’s about to change.

On April 10, Dr. Patrick Proffer of Matrix Age Management and Proffer Surgical Associates participated in Mission 2540’s Amarillo’s world record burpee fundraiser.

Nearly 300 participants came out to support the ministry's efforts at Amarillo High on Saturday morning, including Rich Froning, CrossFit champ and four-time winner of “Fittest Man on Earth.” The group did the squat-thrust exercise for two minutes in hopes of setting a world record for most people performing burpees at one time.

But the event’s sole purpose wasn’t just to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records. It also aimed to raise awareness for Mission 2540, a non-profit ministry that aids low-income families in Amarillo.

Mission 2540 founder, Brooks Boyett, said the group provides after-school Bible study for children, purchases school supplies and Christmas gifts, in addition to helping families pay rent, bills and find jobs.
