Fitness Tips For Travel

Summer is a wonderful time to explore new places, relax by the pool, and make memories. Unfortunately, summer vacations can interrupt your fitness routine, which often leaves you feeling less refreshed at the end of your trip.

How To Maintain Fitness On Vacation

You’ve worked hard to get your body swimsuit-ready, but what happens when you’re on vacation and out of your normal schedule? You have two options: give in to summertime indulgences, or do your best to stay on track no matter what.

Easier said than done, right? Maybe, but here are five tips to make staying in shape while traveling a bit more simple.

1. Look for Opportunities

Chances to get a little exercise are around us every day; we simply don’t always notice. The same holds true while on a summer getaway. Pay attention to your surroundings and then put this advice into action:

  • Take the stairs at your hotel or condo, instead of the elevator.
  • Don’t look for the closest parking spot everywhere you go.
  • Walk to attractions whenever possible.

These might seem like insignificant things, but doing all of them on a regular basis (even during vacation) makes a huge impact on your health.

2. Try Something New

Vacation is the perfect time to try new things—new cocktails, new food, and new activities. What better way to make your trip memorable while simultaneously staying fit than by rock climbing for the first time, for example? Or maybe you’re at the lake and have always wanted to water ski. You’ll get a great workout and will likely have a few laughs as you master the art of standing on water.

3.  Explore the Area

It’s sunny, warm, and gorgeous outside. No matter where you take your vacation, there are sights to see. Get out and do some walking as you tour the attractions. Whether it’s a stroll on the beach or a hike up the mountain, you’ll stay in shape and have some fun.

4. Consider Amenities

Maybe pumping iron is a big part of your fitness routine, or perhaps you prefer spinning indoors to jogging outdoors. Whatever the reason, if having a gym at your disposal is important to you, be sure to check out the amenities of various accommodations before making your decision on where to stay.

5. Keep Food Stocked

This one may be a no-brainer, but it’s worth mentioning because it’s crucial. Dining out plays a major role in the disruption of your fitness routine when you’re on vacation. Try keeping plenty of healthy food on hand, or research for restaurants with menus that offer healthy choices in order to  to avoid that.
