A Matrix Patient's Journey: What It's Like To Be In The Matrix Program

In April 2019, one of our good friends decided to make his health a priority. He enrolled in Matrix Age Management, a program designed to help men and women lose weight, sleep more deeply, and feel better than they have in years.

Now, four months into the program, he’s eager to provide an inside scoop on what it’s like to go through Matrix Age Management—and how much of a difference the program really made on his life.

Keep reading to hear his story!

“A year ago, my life was out of balance. My neck hurt every morning when I woke up. Most mornings, I felt hung over—even if I had not consumed alcohol in days. My legs would ache after a long day of sitting and standing. And, because I stopped seeing real results somewhere between ages 35-40, workouts felt meaningless.

The issues weren’t just physical. Work stress was killing me. I wanted to rest more, relax more, sleep more, work less, spend more time with my family, and take care of myself more. Instead, I worked out less, slept less, worked nights and weekends, and allowed myself to become out of balance. People begin to say things like, ‘I’m worried about you,’ and, ‘You need to take better care of yourself.’

God was telling me to slow down, yet my life seemed to be accelerating towards a health disaster.  With so many people counting on me at work and in my family—especially with a disabled child—I knew what I need to do. But frankly, I couldn’t get started. I had done it before, back in 2005, when I lost 50 lbs and ran my first triathlon. But in 2018, that seemed like a distant impossibility. I couldn’t even run a 5K.

I ran into Dr. Proffer socially. He had asked me for years to try the Matrix Age Management program, but this time his ask was more definite. I had tinkered with the program back in 2016 but suffered migraines from low testosterone and never frankly applied myself.  This time I could tell Patrick was concerned. He told me, ‘Lynch, let me help you help yourself.’

The main changes were both dramatic and subtle. I started slow and used the VOLT app, which I love (and hate), to stay on track. Here’s what a typical week looks like for me now:

  1. I work out 5 days a week, run 2 days, and lift 3 days religiously for about 45 minutes to an hour.

  2. I eat fewer carbs. Not necessarily no carbs, just less. For about 90 days, I kept a food journal of everything I ate, making sure my net calories stayed at or below 1800-2000.

  3. I gave up beer. I still drink wine and liquor when I ‘need’ to, but no more beer. I literally had 4 beers in the first 12 months of the program. That was coming from 4 beers a day.

In the first 6 months, I lost 45 pounds of fat and gained 14.5 pounds of muscle. My clothes fit. I feel great most days. I even figured out how to rearrange my workout schedule to fit my personality. I don’t log my food anymore, but I feel like logging everything has helped me learn how to make better choices.

It made me feel so good to look at my body scan results and see the looks on Katlynn and Patrick’s faces. I believe Katlynn said something like, “You’re really doing it!” When I see that “X” on the scan results page, I freaking love it.

Here is the deal: My numbers are great, too.  My cholesterol is down. My inflammation indicators are at ZERO. My body is loving this process, but honestly “being healthy” is not what is driving me.  It’s the weight loss and the way I feel.

My masseuse said to me last week, “I have worked on a lot of bodybuilders like you.”  I can’t say it any better than that.

I want to be the patient that has either lost the most fat or gained the most muscle within the Then, someone else can beat it.  I don’t care what I weigh and I don’t care how many pushups I can do; I just want to keep going.

If you’re thinking about trying this program, here’s my advice. Start yesterday.  Apply yourself. If you are going to spend the time with Dr. Patrick, just do it. The key is hard work. You have to start somewhere, and you might as well start today. Trust me. The results will blow you away.”

Do you feel like you’re slowing down? Is chronic fatigue, stress, exhaustion, weakness, or lethargy keeping you from doing the things you love?
