10 Healthy Food Swaps To Cut Out The Junk

Eating healthy does not have to be boring, and it certainly shouldn't mean you have to give up all of your favorite dishes.

A few easy food swaps can allow you to get the taste you want while improving your overall health.

Healthy Food Swaps For Your Favorite Foods

  1. Pasta - If you love a big bowl of spaghetti, swap out the pasta for a healthier choice. Spaghetti Squash is a great swap and not only are you reducing processed carbohydrates (yuck), you are also filling your body with vitamins like A, B, C, E, and K.

  2. Soy Sauce -  Consuming soy may cause issues with your bodies hormones, thyroid, and adrenal glands. For healthier flavor, replace soy sauce with coconut aminos.

  3. Margarine - Margarine is filled with chemicals and sugar and has no natural ingredients. Butter or Ghee is a much better choice. Switch out your margarine for butter and add vitamins and minerals to your dishes in doing so.

  4. Sour Cream - If you love to make dips or love adding sour cream to your favorite Mexican dishes, swapping the sour cream out for greek yogurt can reduce fat intake, add protein and help your immune system due to its beneficial bacteria.

  5. Potato Chips - You don't have to ditch the crunch to get healthy foods into your diet. Kale Chips are a great alternative to potato chips. Kale is filled with vitamins, fiber, and Omega 3's.

  6. Ice Cream - If you love ice cream, there is a way to get that cold, creamy taste without all the sugar. Mix frozen bananas and berries in a food processor until you get your preferred consistency. This gives you an antioxidant and potassium boost to boot.

  7. Milk Chocolate - Milk chocolate has a lot more sugar and a lot less antioxidants than dark chocolate. Next time you reach for a chocolate bar, grab 70% dark chocolate instead.

  8. Agave Nectar - You may think agave nectar is a good sugar substitute, but it is actually made up of more than 70% fructose and very little nutrients. Choose raw honey; it can help with your digestion and has antibacterial properties.

  9. Bread - Instead of wrapping your meat and cheese in bread, try a lettuce wrap. Use any kind of greens to wrap up your favorite sandwich fixings.

  10. Salad Dressing - Prepackaged salad dressings are often filled with sugar and chemicals. Substitute olive oil and lemon juice, or olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
